Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing

Desktop publishing is the process of laying out and designing pages with your desktop computer. With software programs such as Microsoft Publisher, you can assemble anything from a one-page document to a full-length book.

Exercise

The following link will allow you to download a booklet of instructions for using Microsoft Publisher 2003. The book will take you, step by step, through the process of creating : a poster, a brochure and a short newsletter.

Your teacher has printed the booklet for you. Please do not use the computer room printer to print your own!

When you have completed the booklet, print out (on the computer room printer) your three documents and show your teacher the desktop published documents you have created. When you have finished, work through the Mini-Project below.

Creative writing task - Photo-essay

Your task is to write a short story (300-500 words). Your story will be about one or more photos of your choosing. You will use the photographs on this page as a stimulus to your story. You will need to use at least one photograph (perhaps more than one photo) for your story. Look at the photo(s) you chose and write about:

Once you have writen your story, use MS Publisher to present the story (with a nice heading) as well as the photograph(s) you used. Save the MS Publisher document as a web page and link it to your Digital Text web page for marking. If you don't like any of the photos on this page, have a look at »this page for more ideas.
