The Band Tour was a great success. Our band director, Steve Lavis, took 30 students to Coonabarabran and Baradine. Leaving on the last day of school, the band played three concerts at primary schools as we travelled over the Blue Mountains. Kelso, Orange East and Wellington Public Schools welcomed the entertainment on the last day of school and the demonstration of the different instruments that make up a concert band.

Saturday morning was spent at Dubbo Zoo, with a very early behind the scenes tour and several hours on bikes. After the zoo, our concert band performed at the Dubbo mall. The third day, Sunday, was spent at Coonabarabran High School. Our students tutored primary and high school students from the area. These young people do not have the access to bands and music lessons that our students do. One young girl receives music lessons over the phone! The full day of workshops culminated in a concert; the local musicians joining in with our students. The local students, parents and audience appreciated the time and efforts of Mr Lavis and our students.

Over the next two days our students performed three more concerts, including for a local hospital and hospice. Some of the trumpeters felt every minute of the demand on their lungs and lips!
